Bangers and Mash Recipe


Bangers and mash, also known as sausages and mash, are a classic Aussie dish, made of mashed potatoes and sausages. Most of the time is served with onion gravy.



  • 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 8 sausages of choice
  • 1 large onion, halved and finely sliced (yellow, white or brown)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp flour (plain)
  • 2 cups beef stock/broth



  • Mashed potato
  • Peas



  1. Heat oil in a large skillet/fry pan over medium-high heat. Add sausages and cook, turning, until browned. Cook time will differ depending on sausage size.
  2. Remove sausages. Turn the heat of the pan down to medium.
  3. Add onion and garlic, and some oil, if necessary, cook until golden brown.
  4. Add flour and mix through.
  5. Add about 3/4 cup of beef broth and mix into the onion. Then add remaining broth and mix until combined.
  6. Simmer, stirring, until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve sausages with plenty of gravy, with mashed potato and peas on the side.
